PS – PLEASE make a comment! -
And if you have a specific comment, make sure you look through these first – I’ve answered all of the most common questions.
PPS – the most common questions so far are:
Q. “Is there a way to connect to an external microphone?”
A: Nope. If you REALLY need an external microphone, you’ll need to get a real camcorder. A real camcorder with an external microphone costs about $400+. Canon has several models that you can get for a little under $400 that do this. I believe the ZR400 is one of them.
Q: “Is there a way to record with exernal audio and then sync the two up?”
A: There *is* a way, but I think that’s a waste of valuable time. Instead of saving a couple bucks on a camera, just get a REAL camera (see above). Recording with a separate microphone and then syncing the audio and video later is a big waste of time.
Q: What’s that cool video player you’re using that lets you put forms on top of your videos?
A: It’s the super-cool “custom video player” we’ve built into the latest version of Traffic Geyser. With it, you can display buttons on top of your videos, forms and even “redirect” to a web page (like an affiliate sales page) after your video stops.
What’s more, you can even display YouTube videos of any size on your web sites without the YouTube branding, ads or pop-ups!
If you’d like a full demonstration, watch it here.
Here’s a note from the Flip Mino HD Winner, Brady Flower from Minneapolis, MN:

Brady Flower, Minneapolis, MN
I was thrilled on Christmas Day to get your email saying I was the winner of your contest. I was actually at my folks visiting for Christmas.
They gave me a little money for Christmas, and it was the Flip Mino player that I had decided to spend it on… then about an hour later I got your email!
It was very exciting!
I’m a new subscriber to Mike’s Traffic Geyser blog, but with his posts, he always seems to be reading my mind, and knowing what I’m thinking about next.”
When I was thinking about switching from a PC to a Mac, there was a video post comparing the two…
When I was thinking about buying my first video camera, there again was Mike with a profile of the very camera I was looking at!
I can’t to see what’s next…!

Great review thanks!

Looks like a great product, especially for a beginner like me. How is it for sound?
December 23rd, 2008 at 11:24 pm
How do the larger size HD files work as online video? Are there any issues, such as slow loading? Do the files compress nicely?
December 23rd, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Pick me!
Thanks for the review. Good stuff.

Mike,
Fantastic review of the flip hd…
i bought the earlier version a few months ago and just love it and was toying with the idea of adding it to my package deal of services for my clients to use in taking video testimonials and whenever the mood hits them …
I have been meeting small business associations all month showing what we can do with video search engine marketing and everyone is blown away…
2009 is going to be a great year for me and my new business…
I will never have to go back to the corporate world…
thank you mike for making this awesome business available to the rest of us…
i’ll be seeing you at the 7star hotel in dubai in 2009…I just know it!
thanks again

Hey Mike,
I love your reviews. I was wondering what you thought of the RCA EZ300HD Small Wonder High Definition Digital Camcorder. I really like the idea of the flip-out-lens for self-recording.

Thanks for the review, Mike. I was wondering about this. I have the Flip Ultra and love it…stayed away from the Mino because the internal mic was not nearly as good as on the Ultra
December 23rd, 2008 at 11:46 pm
Mike, great review! The Flip Mino HD looks like a ‘must buy.’ I’m looking forward to learning more about video marketing and getting started.
Enjoy the Holidays!

It looks like Flip has a real winner (minus the couple of minor shortcomings) here. This looks truly awesome, and can’t wait to get my hands on it.
Thanks for a great review.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for a great overview on the Flip Mino HD Camcorder!
I highly respect your opinion given your background and experience in this area. I’m sure this will clear things up for many people, myself included, that are in the market for an easy to use camcorder. This would be great to use with Traffic Geyser!
Thanks!

Thanks. I love the Flip Mino as well. One of the ways that we use it is to capture video testimonials from our clients (and our clients’ clients). When we or they receive an emailed or mailed testimonial we contact that person and ask them if they would consider giving us that same testimonial sitting at their desk or workplace. We tell them it’s so easy because we’ll be sending them a Flip Video. They just have someone video them telling the audience their testimonial, attach the camera to their computer, email us the testimonial, and the best part is that they can KEEP THE CAMERA for their trouble. It’s been a great tactic. We’ve had 10% response and the clients love that they get such a great gift. Then we can syndicate that video using Traffic Geyser
December 24th, 2008 at 12:06 am
Looks interesting. I wonder how durable it really is?
December 24th, 2008 at 12:07 am
Fantastic, I see that it can fit in a shirt pocket. It will be great for interviewing.
Thanks for the heads up.

I pruchased a flip and used it until it broke – the USB plug in due to conflict with power input. I tried to get an HD, but it is not available in Canada. Now I am without, until I take another trip to the US.
Great having you review videos recorders and providing us with your feedback, and/or samples, Mike.
December 24th, 2008 at 12:09 am
Thanks – this was really interesting and I can see how it would fit into our business. I love the size of it – it definitely makes use of it more flexible, and would also be less intimidating to people.
December 24th, 2008 at 12:22 am
Great review Mike.
Thanks a Lot..
Hopefully I’ll be the winner.!
Congrats
Happy Holidays..
December 24th, 2008 at 12:24 am
Mike,
Great review, very thorough. 720p and 4GB storage sounds good. It is unfortunate there is no mic jack, I agree with you there. It would be really nice if the screen were to the side and rotatable so you could see yourself when recording yourself.

I really appreciate this product review. I heard about his camera just a few weeks ago. Great job, and I also picked up a great tip. It pays to watch these videos, you never know what is going to slip out.
Mike, you are awesome.

Great Review Mike,
Just yesterday I was looking for just this info regarding this camera
I have heard the flip camera mentioned a couple of times , however not readily available in Australia.
I can really see the benefits of this as i see clients I:! and for testimonials it would be amazing. A great Guerella marketing tool when in the trenches.
Question though what are the differences between the HD and the other range of Flip cameras?
Also to combat the audio issue, would you suggest to record, say an interview seperately and overlay it?
Would be interested in your thoughts
December 24th, 2008 at 12:49 am
Wow, cool camera…I want one! Thanks for the review, this looks like a very handy camera to carry in my pocket for all those impromptu moments!
Thanks….
December 24th, 2008 at 12:51 am
Hi, great again to get your review. It really sounds like great product, but I wonder, what if the sound issue on the Flip now is so bad, how did you record your sound during the video, and / or is is it still “good enough” to use what ever built in sound recording it has?
Cheers!

December 24th, 2008 at 12:54 am
Mike,
Thanks for the great review. I just bought the Flip Mino but did not know about the Flip Mino HD. Now I want to see how much difference there is in the two because the regular Flip Mino is awesome as it is so if the HD version is any better … WOW!!!
December 24th, 2008 at 12:54 am
Love the review for the new FLIP video! I recently purchased the FLIP VIDEO and I love it! If you want to create Hi-Def Videos with less effort and money, I challenge you to get this FLIP MINO HD!

Looks, like a great camera and a great product review..
December 24th, 2008 at 12:59 am
Hey Mike … nice review. As soon as they take a camera like this and add optical zoom, mic inputs, and image stabilization, they’re going to shift the market!
December 24th, 2008 at 1:01 am
Thanks for the great review, Mike. I’ve had several of the Flip cameras – I love them and always end up giving them to clients!
I just picked up the MinoHD last week and did my first quick video with it recording a holiday greeting for my subscribers.
It works great and produced really high quality video. However, I used it with the youtube player and I don’t like the quality of it after youtube processed it.
Another little glitch I noticed is that when I used the built-in tool to splice the beginning and end of the movie, it seemed to have make the audio a bit out of sync.
After this quick test, just like you, I give it a 4.5 on a 5 point scale (because of the lack of the mic. Great starting camera for low-tech people.
Happy Holidays…
Adam
P.S. If you want to see the first movie I made with my MinoHG and what it looks like in a youtube player, it’s at http://themarketingmentors.com/happyholidays
December 24th, 2008 at 1:02 am
Thanks Mike! I had seen a blurb about the HD Flip camera somehere and had even looked at the specs on the Flip site, but this was GREAT!
December 24th, 2008 at 1:03 am
That’s a great camera and even greater review you did on pre-selling
the camera. The opt-IN box on top of the video is a neat tactic.
Is there a software where I can do the same also ?
December 24th, 2008 at 1:06 am
Great Review Mike,
No doubting the value of this little Flip. The Mino HD is definiately the one to have by for those quickie improptu videos.
Great Christmas pressie too.

Hey Mike,
Great review. That camera looks super cool. Especially the software that comes with it – so easy to use! And HD quality? WOW! Great tool to use with Traffic Geyser.
Thanks for the review.

Mike, Once again, great stuff.
Will the flip mount on a tripod?
I always look forward to your videos!
Thanks, Stan

Thanks!
Happy Holidays!!

December 24th, 2008 at 1:27 am
Great, Mike. I really was amazed at the quality. Is there an easy way to add a microphone to the system?
Thanks for the review.
December 24th, 2008 at 1:28 am
Hey Mike, thanks for the review! I was getting interested in buying a flip, but now you saved me from buying the old one!! I didn’t know they had a HD Flip. Very Cool. Thanks. Keep up the great reviews.
December 24th, 2008 at 1:33 am
Thanks for all this sensitive ideas and reviews you always brought out to your list and other online users of this site who wants more traffic using video.
And I always get excited each and every time you post a review of any type. But one thing I most admit to tell you about is that, I can’t stand myself on a camera just like the way you do.
Of wish, my GOAL is to model after your style.
And another thing that I always think about is my poor background on English Language.
Nevertheless, I can’t let all these stand on my way any longer because I’ve got a role model to look after his shoulder.
My plan is to get premium package of your program.
Once again, thanks for your flip camera review I just finished watching.
December 24th, 2008 at 1:34 am
Nice review good call on the Flip. I’ve been wanting to try this thing for a while now instead of using my normal camera…

Hi Mike,
Great review, as usual.
Ive been trying to decide on which high quality “low cost” camcorder to get myself… this looks like a good contender.. pity bout the lack of audio jack.. might take a look at the Flip ultra.
Happy hollidays,

Hi Mike,
With your background, I put a lot of stock in what you say, and trust your opinion and advise.
Your reviews are very helpful to those of us who know little or nothing about cameras. I thank you for taking your time to check these things out, and giving us reviews on what you discover, as you know these will save your readers a lot of wasted time and money.
I’m glad you mentioned the way it can work with Traffic Geyser, as I just recently purchased that and am trying to get an online business going.
It would be wonderful if I was the winner of such a great product.
Thanks again for your help.
December 24th, 2008 at 2:11 am
Great Video Mike. I’m just about to get started with some online video and this camera looks like it would do a great job of it. Cheers Mike, Dan

Hi Mike,
After watching your video series I really want to make a Frank type video. The Flip Mino HD would be great, unfortunately I see its not available in Canada, Maybe Santa will come thru. Thanks for the great info.
December 24th, 2008 at 2:28 am
Since it records in HD…will it play on any system….even one without HD?
December 24th, 2008 at 2:33 am
Mike, Thanks for the great review. By the way, is there a trick or alternative way to add the audio to it?
Thanks!
December 24th, 2008 at 2:38 am
Looks like a great product. How long will a full charge last?

Thanks Mike from a fellow Stomper. I own the first generation Flip, so this looks like a great new product. Merry Christmas
December 24th, 2008 at 2:56 am
Hey Mike,
Loved your review – I almost bought a mino about a month ago…. glad I waited for this newer model, but it would be nice to get it from you so I can use the money I don’t spend on ways to make me more $$!!!
December 24th, 2008 at 2:57 am
Ggggreat review Mike.
I’m glad that FLIP upgraded to HD.
Really great quality for such a small camera, it’s a gadget to have.
Thank you for the review.
December 24th, 2008 at 2:57 am
If it doesn’t accomodate a SD card, what is the difference between this one and the original? Is it the HD?
December 24th, 2008 at 3:20 am
Nice camera! I would want to keep it in my car for the odd occasion that I see something interesting. Like this morning, everything was covered in a foot of snow.
December 24th, 2008 at 3:22 am
Pretty cool!!
Wish I had seen this review before my son bought me one for Christmas (it is not HD)…
Thanks for the great information!
December 24th, 2008 at 3:24 am
I have been using the original flip for almost a year and don’t go anywhere without it. We have used it to film our tv/internet shows entirely. In fact, i have purchased over 10 flips for friends in Australia who cant seem to get them easily. I am really looking forward to getting a mino as soon as the shops re stock their shelves.
Thanks for the review Mike

December 24th, 2008 at 3:31 am
Hey Mike, great review, and love the camera! I actually just bought the “old” Flip a couple of months ago and now am kind of wishing I’d waited for this version. Love the file sharing software on this new baby, looks like a big upgrade on the previous version.
Thanks again Mike, and Happy Holidays to you and the guys at Traffic Geyser.
December 24th, 2008 at 3:41 am
Great information AND impressive what the TrafficGeyser system can allow you to do…your system looks very impressive, no wonder it has been successful for 2 years now.
December 24th, 2008 at 3:46 am
Hello Mike, great review as always. Actually the timing is perfect. I was ready to buy the Flip Ultra but now I guess I’ll have to wait to see if I win this one… or buy one before the next one comes out. LOL
In the meantime, I wish you a Wonderful Christmas and all the best for 2009!
December 24th, 2008 at 3:51 am
Mike –
I would LOVE to win The Flip Mino HD – so thank you for putting this contest together!
And thank you even more for all the videos you put out for Traffic Geyser and DigitalCafe.tv!
Have a DYNAMITE day and an even better holiday!

Great review Mike, I love the flip. I have the flip mino, and it’s the only thing I use for my videos.
I definitely want to upgrade to the HD, it’s tooooooo easy man, and it’s really all you need unless you’re doing blockbuster movie style videos lol.
Thanks for doing the review though, it makes me want one even more.
December 24th, 2008 at 4:12 am
Mike,
Thanks so much for the efforts you take to keep us abreast of all of the great gadgets out there that we can use with our TG membership. My head is spinning regarding how to use this with the knowledge I’ve acquired thanks to TG AND OfflineBiz.com. Merry Christmas.

Looks like a great camera. My wife was trying to buy me a digital video camera for christmas so I could make my own web videos without borowing my daughter’s boyfriends camera. I must have looked too desperate. She could not find one that would do the job for less than $600.00 Aussie dollars. Too much! No christmas camera! Back to looking desperate! This Flip looks as though it has the quality and the price I am looking for. Cheers. Bruce

Mike, thanks for very good example of promotion and soft-selling!
btw, i hope you don’t mind my advice – as former photo-journalist: i’d recommend you move those flowers to the right of the frame so that the heads don’t seem like they sprout. a little distracting maybe.
happy Christmas.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the super review on the Flip Mino HD! I have the same question as a few of your other commenters and that is, what did you use for the audio in your presentation and what set up do you recommend for audio when using this camera?
December 24th, 2008 at 4:37 am
Mike, thanks so much for this review – I’m poised to purchase a Flip. Since I want to use the videos online, rather than on a plasma TV, I was wondering if an “older” Flip version would be better. This comment was on Amazon reviews of the Flip Mino HD:
“Final Verdict – if you are want a camera that is highly portable with great quality look no further. If you would prefer a video camera that you are only going to use for posting videos on the internet you may want to go back a model.”
December 24th, 2008 at 5:09 am
Hey Mike,
First of all, awesome review. I like how you showed us nearly everything we needed to know to buy it.
One quick question.
I have an affiliate website I made where I’m going to be doing a whole bunch of reviews and will definitely need a camera like this, but I’m not very “video” savvy.
How easy is it to upload to sites like Youtube, etc.?
Or better yet, how easy is it to upload to Traffic Geyser (which I’ll be test-driving next month)?
Thanks again Mike!

Another good video and great value. I am new to the video stuff and this looks pretty good. I think it will be mice first place to start.
What is the sound like?
BTW, I won’t tell anyone if I win!
December 24th, 2008 at 6:40 am
Thanks again, Mike, for contributing quality content. I have learned so much from you in such a short time. In fact, you solved a problem I had with promoting an affiliate link w/out doing PPC. And, now you have answered all my questions I had about the new Flip I’ve been hearing so much about. PLUS, you saved me from wading through a bunch of tech writing that would have made my eyeballs spin.
Merry Christmas to you, Santa~

December 24th, 2008 at 7:13 am
Thank you for an informative review of this gem, I especially liked the size of it. I was out in a snowstorm today and many were grumbling about it,but my mind was on the thought this would be awesome footage for a video clip if only I had something to film it. Thank you for the opportunity to win one. Merry Christmas

Hey Mike, awesome – you must know how much TIME we can spend researching all this stuff, and you’ve done all the leg work!
Now, would you PLEASE save me the headache of choosing the NEXT model up/best value that DOES have Mic (Line?!?!) input, DOES have a 1080p ability and preferably can be webcam too???
We’d all be SO much obliged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3

I found Eileen’s comment interesting as I found it a bit amusing that the flowers seem to sprout from Mike’s head….
Thanks for the great review! Maybe it’s time I give TrafficGeyser a go and get some traffic. Hope it works for me. Anyone else tried it? I registered a moment ago via the Sompernet link!

Great review video, thank you. Question, if I record audio on a separate digital audio capture device at the same time I am recording the video, what is the best software to use syncing the audio and video together? mike
December 24th, 2008 at 11:39 am
Hey Mike,
Thanks for this review, and of course for the contest:) I was hesitant to buy a flip cause of the vibration issue and other limitations. However this review is making me rethink my decision.
I was recently appointed to the board of the Moho River Habitat Protection Organization, a conservation group working to preserve the Belize rainforest, and will be traveling to Belize in January.
This new Flip seems just the thing to travel with and to make some good documentaries on what the organization is trying to accomplish.
Thanks again for the timely review

Hello Mike,
Thanks for the great review. The Flip Mino HD Camera looks like a great product. It looks very portable, compact and easy to use. The no port for an external microphone is a small concern, but otherwise very interested in getting one myself. Post Christmas Gift for myself.
One other queston…is there anyway of mounting it? Is there a small stand provided or can it mount like a camcorder on a tripod? I talk too much with my hands and unfortunately the camera would be bouncing around way too much to get a professional shot of me during a video recording…
Merry Christmas to you Mike, Rocket, Frank and your families. I’m looking forward to a get 2009 in my internet marketing business with Traffic Geyser at my side.
Blessings,
Jerry

Mike,
Tks for the review. I really need one of these for my Talk Fusion Video Email Business.
Keep up the good work.
PS: Can I buy one of your used HD Flips if I do not win one?
December 24th, 2008 at 2:33 pm
Mike,
I love my Flip.
I have gone through your tips and the one thing that seems to be missing is recommendations for podcasting (desktop) microphones.
I really want to improve the audio quality of my screencast recordings and podcasts. Can you suggest some for me?
Thanks.

Thanks for the valuable information Mike.Your review for the HD flip mino couldn’t have come at a better time.I just landed my first Traffic Geyser account with an appliance store and I plan on using the mino to promote the store and set-up an affiliate store for all the products.I’ll get back with my results.

Mike – great review.
Question: I have an old school flip and my one complaint is that I have to keep my videos under about 7 minutes or they’re too big for YouTube (have to be under 100 MB as you know).
I imagine an HD flip would have this problem even more so….since it’s in HD the files sizes are probably bigger, and thus keeping a video YouTube-worthy would require watching the overall time pretty closely.
Has this been your experience with the HD? Are the file sizes too big for YouTube after a few minutes? What’s been the “breaking point” for you?
Thanks again,
…jp

Another cam to consider is the Aiptek Action HD GVS 1080p
It has an external mic port, 5x optical zoom, rotating viewscreen, expandable storage, and sells for $199 (Walgreens online).

Have one already love it its perfect for everything couldn’t be without one i have in in my pocket all the time.

Thanks for the review.
Could you please clarify what the differences are between the Ultra and the Mino HD?
Have been poised to buy the Ultra…and have had many conflicting recommendations. One person commented negatively about the Flip HD regarding batteries and file size…but it sounds like from your review that the recharge works the same. Can you elaborate?
Thanks!
And Happy Holidays!

Oh, Mike!
Thanks for the demo! I’m so excited about 2009 and getting signed-up with Traffic Geyser.
The quality on this little Flip HD is terrific. Hope I win it!
Thank you for all the great info you share with us. I’m trying to learn as fast as I can.
C’mon 2009!

Great review Mike – Wishing you and your family a great Christmas and New Year
My New Years resolution for 2009 is to get a camera and start using it to promote my products like you do!!!
Thanks again

Mike,
You really drive home the importance of video but also how effective demonstrating a product is to get people engaged in the conversation. Well done as usual!
Happy holidays to you and your family & the Traffic Geyser family.

Mike, great, detailed review. It cannot wait to get one and, hope they add a external mic soon. Best,

I’m about to give my father a flip for Christmas and wouldn’t be able to if it wasn’t easy to use. I was impressed with the first flip I had and then I upgraded to the flip ultra but this one looks as though it will suit my needs better.
Thanks for the review … It really does help getting professional before deciding on whether to purchase a product.

Thanks for the back end perks Mike. You are really great for finding creative ways to keep us engaged. Really should make one think twice before just skipping your emails!!
I currently have a JAZZ Elite (HD) from Wal-Mart (BETWEEN $150 AND $150 DEPENDING ON FLIP SCREEN SIZE)… IT is so humorous that it sits on top of a HUGE tripod in my “bathroom” studio (great light and acoustics). Just need to do the blue gel technique to “eliminate the orange light” as you instructed in one of the videos.
Between that an camtasia screen capture, I am churning out the vids and podcasts!
But would definitely be interesting to see what the Flip
Mino HD can do.
Plus, I have been really educating my 3 teenagers on the viral marketing concepts presented and afforded by Traffic Geyser.
I want them to always have an entrepreneurial perspective versus a collect a paycheck mentality.
Viral Marketing is a great skill to teach.
Thanks Mike!

Thanks for this Mike – great timing for me.
I’ve been looking at a variety of Flips today as well as some other ‘one button’ cameras and you’ve just made my mind up for me. I’d better hang on before I buy now though in case I win the prize …
December 25th, 2008 at 1:08 am
the flip looks pretty neat. i’m not kissin ass here but i just like the format and presentation of all your videos. they’re clean, crisp, informative, current and not overly serious. they always pump me up. good stuff.
December 25th, 2008 at 2:47 am
I’m determine to make a living online, but there so mush to learn. My New Years resolution is to join traffic geyser, anything that will help by making things simpler is appreciated. This flip, surely is one of the gadget I will get. But first I need to work over time to join traffic geyser.
It’s the third time I see online “gurus” recommend the flip camera.
Your way of using videos, makes things so simple, no need to read stuff that means nothing to somebody that is not a expert in the field and thanks for that.
Happy holidays to you all at Traffic Geyser.

Now you do the review! a few weeks ago a bought a Flip video & I just love it but now after the review maybe I should have waited & up-graded, I may still if anyone can pry this Flip from my hands.
This was the perfect timing, just before Christmas…thanks for the review.

December 25th, 2008 at 4:10 am
Enjoyed the review, like others I wonder about it’s durability. A little pricey for my budget and the lack of a mic is a show stopper.
December 25th, 2008 at 4:56 am
Hi Mike,
A friend of mine who recently bought the flip let me check his out and I was totally impressed. We did discover an alternative method to charging the camera. He was headed off to a snowboarding trip and didn’t want to bring his laptop. So how can he charge the camera? Alas…we figured out the iphone has a usb to wall plug that The Flip can use to charge!
Brilliant. I hope I win. Merry Christmas.
December 25th, 2008 at 5:12 am
In one of your previous video reviews, you mentioned that the flip doesn’t allow for much of a panoramic view since it doesn’t allow for a wide-angle lens. Has this model changed that limitation with the “glass”?
December 25th, 2008 at 6:00 am
Hi Mike,
Excellent review. I bought the Flip Mino about a month before the HD was announced. I think I may trade up.
Thanks for all of the inspirational videos this year. I believe we’ll be TG customers within the next 30 days. You’ve convinced me.
Happy Holidays.

Hi Mike,
I finally got around to watching your review on the Flip Mino HD. It looks like a wonderful little video camera. I have the Flip Mino. I’ve had it for about 6 months or so. I used it on a drive from L.A. to Phoenix. I wanted to see how the video operated in low light situation. I pulled over at a rest stop right before sunset. I video some of the wild life. Even the sunset. It came out beautiful. Had I known the folks over at Flip was coming out with HD version of the Flip, I would have held out a few more months or so for it.

Hi Mike!
The Flip Mino HD Camera it is very good tool to be used for introduction and explanation about a home based business.

Great job Mike. I think you truly know your camcorders & we are benefiting from your knowledge. If I am not the winner of your contest I’ll definitely buy one Flip Mino HD Camera, this weekend.
Thanks for the reviews among other things,

Mike,
I am so glad I saw this. I was toying around with getting one of the flip models and just was not convinced. As a result, I opted not to get the darn thing at all.
But watching your review gave some insight on the HD model that was awesome. Thanks a bunch and I look to get mine soon!
To your success,
Tracey

Hi,
Happy Xmas to all!
The Video camera is awesome.
I am just starting out & this info is great.
Thank you so much.
I saw on your blog entries, that it isn’t available in Australia…Looks like I’ll have to fly to USA & get one!
There must be a seminar coming up early next year, surely?

Hi Mike,
Your timing is perfect. Coincidentally, I was beginning to look at portable HD cameras. I remember hearing about the new Flip (now), but it totally slipped my mind.
Your review was helpful to me, in that I got a chance to see it in action, now know it has good light sensitivity (but no external mike), which is ok for a lower priced camera with it’s capability.
What I also enjoyed, was viewing the software that comes with it in action. — Very helpful.
Thanks,
JP

Mike,
You are providing so valuable information thank you. Just ordered the HD camera and tripod and look forward to using it.
Honestly, I don’t see a better method for getting heaps of traffic to your site other than Traffic Geyser. I have been looking at it for a while and you guys have the real package.
Look forward to participating next year (which is only 3 days away!)

I have The Flip Mino and love it. This might be a purchase in the future, but not till 2009. The Original Mino is doing the job just great.
Thanks for the review!

It’s been a blessing

I have the new Vado HD and it rocks!
March 8th, 2009 at 6:28 am
Oh man, I didn’t get the HD version. I’m using the Mino and it totally rocks. Good thing I have another week to play with it and then return it to upgrade… I would do that now but I live on freakin’ island and it takes me 2 to 2 1/2 hours to get to the store.
March 18th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
I have the original FLip and it is great. The HD version looks like quite an improvement from your demonstration. My old Flip goes everywhere with me. Looking forward to the new HD version.
March 21st, 2009 at 8:54 pm
I just got the Mino (not HD) and I love it. I have a question for you though. Do you know of any reason why I am not able to directly upload to YouTube or to upload a Mino file from within YouTube on my PC laptop? I can from another computer. Thank you. Great review piece.
March 24th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Your email timing is great! I just bought one last night. I of course had to customize it with our own art work – (we are artists.) We’ll use it for all sorts of things, but mainly I to market our art gallery online and in Sugar Loaf, NY. We’ll do video marketing about any part of our art gallery business and get it on You Tube and of course Traffic Geyser! Your sample video is amazing.
March 27th, 2009 at 12:29 pm
Does the screen flip around, so if you are shooting yourself, you can see the image? does it connect to a tripod?
April 8th, 2009 at 1:48 am
Mike,
I am confused about your reply to Jeff and saying no tripod connection. Because up near the top of the replies from 3 months ago you stated:
“Yes – the Mino has a tripod mount built-in!”
So, which is it? I personally believe it does since Amazon.com states it does.
Take care,
Robert

Nice work on the review. Very helpful.
I agree with your frustration on the lack of mic input, but in a quiet environment it looks like it worked well.

April 23rd, 2009 at 1:42 pm
I love your video on the flip camera. The idea of using a demonstration and/or critique about this product or any product is the best, unbiased, way to sell something without coming across like you are selling it. You know and I know this principle can be used to demo and later sell any product in any market. You job was well done.
April 29th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
I have noticed that there is a Flip 2 Hour HD camera that is out as well. It is not the Mino model but does hold more video. Has anyone had any experience with it?
May 3rd, 2009 at 2:19 pm
Can the camera be screwed onto a tri-pod?
May 17th, 2009 at 2:09 pm
Hi Mike
The thing I like about the Flip Mino HD is the size of it. Not many video cameras can fit in your pocket and be unobtrusive.
I always carry a still digital camera in my pocket to shoot things and events while I’m about. So I can see myself using the Flip Video Mono for just such occasions.
I like the way you demonstrate the actual use of the camera, and the honesty with which you review each product. Keep it up.
Many Thanks
Ian Nicholson
May 18th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
Love your review! This is such a great camera: easy to use, great picture quality. Only downside is, as has been noted, the lack of mic input, but I tend to do my blog filming indoors anyway. Am also going to use it for my motivational podcasts at actionpodcast.com
June 14th, 2009 at 2:20 pm

Did I get this late or what? I see happy Christmas and its almost the 4th of July…lol Great review none the less and all my questions were answered in the posts. Thanks, Michael
July 1st, 2009 at 10:52 am
OK – so maybe I missed the Xmas draw – but I gotta tell you that I have a love/hate thing with this good looking device:
Love it – for all the things I’ll be able to do to promote the new site I’m building.
Hate it – because it makes it too easy for my competitors to do the same as me (with Traffic Geyser… of course)
July 2nd, 2009 at 2:56 pm
Great video and explanation. I have an earlier version and have used it to create videos to post on YouTube and on my personal website, http://www.janyeanderson.com.
I would love to have one of the new HD versions, however, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks for sharing all the great information you do!! I’m loving your TrafficGeyser site.
July 6th, 2009 at 1:44 pm
Wow! This camera is fantastic, especially about the size of it, and it’s very flexible to use.
I have 2 question for you: 1) Does this camera can work properly with Traffic Geyser? 2) Does this camera as good as Handycam? Thanks.
July 16th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
Great review…thanks. I have the Flip Ultra HD and they market it as being able to directly upload to utube. Whe I tried found out that a 7 minute video is several hundred mega bites. Had to shrink it down in movie maker. Same thing with Viddler. From what I understand you cant change the settings…any ideas?
July 29th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
Hi Mike,
I have an analog Handycam and the Mino seems better. What is your work around for sound?
August 6th, 2009 at 11:22 am
Hey there Mike,
Thanks for emailing me the review. I use the Mino HD and love it because it is low tech. It does not have all the bells and whistles as handycams, but that;s not what I use it for. I love taking it to expos to get on the spot quickie interviews and for 5-10 minute vids for my website abd online columns.
The vids do take a bit longer to upload because of the size file, but that’s why God invented multi-tasking.
Keep the reviews coming.

hi Mike, I like your video presentations…but there is one thing….If you want people to enjoy and really listen to what you’re saying, you should really consider eliminating the background “music” (noise). It really makes your presentation much harder to understand and to focus on.
Take care.
Bill Montgomery
Bill,
Thanks for the tip!

September 15th, 2009 at 1:16 pm
Mike,Great video, the only thing I was wondering about was if the view screen flipped out so you could see yourself and I see this one doesn’t do that. I’m sure that may be coming but have you heard anything about that?
Duane
Duane,
As far as I know, they are not planning on making a flip out screen. If you really want to be able to see yourself while you’re recording I would suggest spending a little more money and buy a real camcorder. Cannon makes a few for around $400.
Mike
September 23rd, 2009 at 10:42 pm
I don’t understand the issue of sound here. Are you saying this particular flip doesn’t have ANY sound capabilities or it’s just not the high quality sound you would get with a external mic?
The Flip does have a built in microphone but it is not the same quality sound that you would get by using an external microphone.
September 25th, 2009 at 3:47 pm
The presentation was very good on the Flip Mino HD. The picture quality did appear to be perfect for the web. And the ease of use makes it perfect for the first timeer. As I am. I do have one question, however, and I’m sure it’s been asked already. If an external microphone is so essential, why do you endorce the Mino as wholeheartly as you do when it does not have an external microphone connection. You have cited the external microphone connection as a must have with a flip camera. I assume that using an external microphone allows the person making the video to better control the external sound quality of the video. What makes the Mino such a fantastic product that you are willing to overlook the lack of an external microphone connection? And, are there other must haves, for a flip video camera, that a person can trade in exchange for other features?
Phil,
I recommend the Flip Mino as a good enough option for beginners or for somebody who is on a small budget. I recommend it because it is a good camera for a low price. If somebody can afford to spend a little bit more on a camera then I would encourage them to buy a Canon. The Canon FS series has an external microphone connection and they start at around $300.

Hi Mike,
That was a great review. I need to get a video camera as I have been shying away from the prospect of doing videos but you made this look so easy. I am assuming that even though it doesn’t have an external microphone jack that there is an inbuilt microphone? Cheers, Lorraine
You are correct, there is a built in microphone.
October 29th, 2009 at 7:43 pm
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the info. Is Canon mpeg4? I’m new and would like the easiest camera to work with.
Cheers, Patti
Hi Patti,
If you use a Mac then you can download your videos right into iMovie and if you have a PC then the cameras come with a disk to install software to import your video files. Both programs will create multiple different file types including mpeg4.
Mike
October 29th, 2009 at 9:21 pm
I have the original. No, the picture is not as good as the HD, but good enough for streaming, as long as you do not go to full screen. Also, the smaller file size is MUCH easier to work with.
November 2nd, 2009 at 5:02 am
Kodak has a flip-like portable camera that HAS an external mic jack.
Similar price range.
Check it on Amazon. I am getting that one because of the external mic.

This is a great product!!!
November 21st, 2009 at 6:06 pm
The Kodak Zi8 has been getting some great reviews and uses SDHC cards to get more video plus the external mic. As for Flip editing software better on PC. Since a Mac ships with Imovie, Garange Band and Iphoto. The poor PC needs all the help it can get.
PS Mike how about a side by side comparison of the FlipHD vs Kodak Zi8?
There could possibly be a comparison or just a review of the Kodak Zi8 in the future.

Hi Mike, what a fantastic review!! You must have read my mind.. I was just chatting with a friend about a video review that I had viewed that you made a a while ago about a heap of different video camcorders etc and accessories..and this great little Flip Mino HD Camcorder was the one I was really keen on purchasing.. it’s perfect for a newbie like myself..and exactly what I need..Then WOW!! this review came into my in box! Talk about meant to be, that was amazing.. Thanks again Mike..I love your work, it’s so cool…Cheers from down under in Melbourne, Australia! Jeannette
